A credit freeze request, or security freeze, is used by individuals who want to stop third parties from being able to access their credit reports. This may be used to keep unauthorized parties from accessing a credit report without the permission of the individual. In order to allow creditors to check the report, the individual requesting the credit freeze is given a personal pin number for allowed credit report access.
In order to set up a credit freeze and request a personal pin number, you will need to verify your identity. This can only be done by providing specific information, including birth date, social security number, identification number from a license or other state issued ID, and address.
