Model Release Form: What Is It?

A model release form is signed by someone who is providing their face, their entire body, or even their voice to an organization or photographer for use. the purpose of a model release form is to inform the model that they are giving the organization permission to use their image, likeness, or voice and the model will not have the right to sue for unauthorized use of their image. A model release form generally explains the rights that model may be giving up for a certain amount of time as a result of signing the form. A model release form should be dated, signed, and kept on file.

A model release form may be a legally binding document between someone posing or acting as a model and an organization or photographer. The purpose of a model release form is for the model to give written permission to the organization or photographer to use their image or their likeness in a current or future project. The model release form explains to the model that they may also lose certain rights (such as selling the image to another organization for use) for a certain amount of time.
