Fee Waiver: What Is It?

A fee waiver enables an individual who can't afford a fee associated with an application or court process to ask for the fee to be dismissed so that they can participate. Even courts provide a fee waiver. However, many fee waivers have qualifications that must be met in order for a fee waiver to be used. Community sports teams, activity clubs, college application boards, and testing organizations (such as the ACT, SAT, and LSAT) often provide fee waivers to ensure that the application and entrance processes are fair and accessible.

A fee waiver is a document that explains to an individual that they will be allowed to participate in an activity or an event even though they cannot afford to pay the required fee. Fee waivers are commonly offered to college applicants, people who want to take the LSAT or another entrance exam, and even certain sporting clubs to ensure that all people have an opportunity to participate.
