Form 2350: What Is It?

This form will be used for tax filing purposes conducted with the United States Internal Revenue Service. A Form 2350 is also known as an Application for Extension of Time to File U.S. Income Tax Return. This form will be completed by U.S. citizens or resident aliens who need extra time to meet the qualifications for a residence test or physical presence test. These tests will determine whether someone is eligible for the foreign earned income exclusion and foreign housing deductions.

In order to be identified as a taxpaying citizen of the United States, the filer needs to include their personal information such as full name and social security number. The U.S. address for the citizen will also be needed, as well as the foreign country where the filer has been living. The date that the filer needs an extension until will need to be listed, as well as verifying information that details how long the filer has been in a foreign country.
